We are proud to announce that X NIHILO is officially on the People for the Ethical Treatments of Animals (PETA) Angora wool and fur list. This acknowledges that our merchandise are not supporting slaughterhouses and factories where animals are cruelly treated for their wool or fur.

Why is this important?

Every year, millions of animals are horrendously treated and killed for the fashion industry. The angora wool and fur farms, in particular, are some of the worst known industries for treating small animals, whose natural coats are often used in luxury clothing or accessory items. PETA are continuously fighting for the rights of those without a voice and are pushing all fashion houses big and small to quit using animal fur that is so unnecessary especially with quality faux-fur being available. There is enough evidence on the PETA website that demonstrates the disturbing practices that are occurring at these factories or farm houses, and so there was no question that X NIHILO would want to be a part of this voice.

PETA’s MOTTO

PETA Australia operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment or abuse in any way. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in factory farms, the clothing trade, laboratories, and the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of birds and other “pests”.

For both the fur and angora wool industries, there has been enough focus on banning the trade for years now. Although faux-fur has mostly taken over, there are still high fashion labels that choose to use real animal fur for their fashion pieces. For an unfortunate overview of the Fur Trade please have a read of this article from PETA which shows you straight out what happens to the helpless animals slaughtered or abused overseas. WARNING: some readers may find parts of this article distressing.

As much as it is disturbing, everyone needs to know what actually goes on behind the clothing rack, if we want any dramatic and long-term changes to occur. At X NIHILO our leather is sourced from different tanneries, which we have personally visited. The patterns are cut and sewn in an ethical manufacturing facility in China that also produces for international luxury brands, and finally, every bag you buy is finished, packed and shipped to you from our HQ in Melbourne, Australia where we inspect every item before it arrives at your door.

As we continue to grow as a brand we look forward to working with PETA a lot more and learning how else we can create an even more ethical company.
