#FRIENDSOFXNIHILO Collaboration with

Rebecca Wing Sze Lam

Love has always been the central theme of my pieces. Whether it's Romantically, platonically, or the love of a parent. I can only paint from my own experiences and paint from stories of my own. The focus of my pieces is never photographic resemblance but instead, simplifying the subject and allowing the viewer to make their connections to each piece. I rarely write statements to my pieces, mainly because I wish for viewers to make their interpretations. I can only “suggest” in titles of my own emotions or thoughts of inspiration.

Many of my works begin by drawing one-line blind sketches (literally with my eyes shut) because I believe that when our eyes are shut, we truly feel. So the basis of my work has always been drawn blind, whilst drawing in one continuous line encourages me to draw more loosely and with intuition rather than a learned robotic technique.

One Line Drawings are pieces that are heavily focused on stripping away the unnecessary complexity of the human face and body and simply using a single line to create intimate connections with the body and faces with one another. I enjoy the simplicity of the works I create and I believe beauty does not need to be overly complicated. Blue plays a recurring presence in many of my pieces. It's a signature colour that is consistent in many of my themes. Blue calls to mind feelings of calmness or serenity. Blue is also a sense of sadness and emotion. This has always been my goal; to create images that seemingly tell parts of a story.
Whether it is to create peaceful tranquility or stir emotions in its viewers. The only motive is only to encourage the viewer to feel.
