Our Boss Lady!

If you are a bag enthusiast, there is a chance you are already obsessed with X NIHILO. We are not judging, because there is a good reason why.
It’s always good to put a face to the name and really get to know what you are buying – we all know its not just another bag. So who is the face behind your favourite bag? To celebrate the #internationalbossday on 16th October (also Jenny's birthday, what are the odds!) we wanted to do something special and let you in on a little secret or two…

Meet Jenny Hsieh, the founder and CEO of X NIHILO. She is a passionate businesswoman, a designer, gym junkie, your bag lady and a mother to her staff. It’s hard to label Jenny and encapsulate her personality with a few adjectives. I have only been with the company for a few months but I can already tell you, Jenny is a superwoman.

It’s a huge privilege to be a part of a company that lets you explore your own skills and grow. There is also something satisfying about being a part of a team that stands for a greater purpose - empowerment. There is a multitude of ways to be a women in today’s world, finding your own place is challenging, so how did Jenny get form A to B?

What sparked your interest in fashion and made you want to start your own company?

I wanted to create something more than a range of designs and merchandise, but a brand with purpose that celebrates women. I wanted to see women advance in the community, whilst providing them with better, smarter and more meaningful purchase choices.

How has your life changed since you started your company?

Where do I start! Everything! Although I have always been a workaholic and working long hours, running my own business has changed my life completely, in a very fulfilling way I must add. Even though I’m definitely spending more hours working, this business has become more of a lifestyle then just a career. You ask; what hours do you work? But it is more like; what hours do you rest?

What is one of your guilty pleasures?

Ordering Mac Donald’s on Uber Eats when the nearest Mac Donald’s is only 5 min walk.

Tell us one thing no one knows about?

I’m a total homebody.

Who is your inspiration?

My customers. I’m always trying to engage with our audiences and viewers. The biggest driver for my passion is to make an impact in the fashion industry and within women communities. Focusing on my passion and customers also helps me stay and be a better person in the process. As a person, no matter where I am and what role I’m in, my goal was always to help people wherever I can.

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started your company?

Good people and culture. You need good people to help you achieve your goals and good culture to influence your community and create a brand with meaning. Also working hard, but that is no news of course!

What advice would you give to young designers?

Live and work consciously because it means freedom. Awareness of how you live gives you the freedom from fear, worry and feeling overwhelmed. Being honest with yourself will give you the freedom from guilt, depression and trapping of consumer culture that we’ve built our lives around. Real freedom will always reflect in your work and we need more of that!

Everyday all of us at HQ witness the hard work and dedication Jenny puts into X NIHILO every single day. The brand is her baby and she is always so positive and motivated – you would never suspect that she doesn’t get any sleep! Jenny has a quirky personality, she is everything you imagine her to be but most importantly she is a motivator and an inspiration to her staff.

Working for Jenny doesn’t feel like work at all. At X NIHILO we are one big family working towards one big goal – to grow X NIHILO into a thriving business. Jenny is truly an inspirational #bosslady – her work ethic is second to none and we all consider her to be not only a boss but also a mentor and friend.
