Happy Mother’s Day Sleeping Beauties

Consider this job posting:

“No degree or prior experience required; salary and hours non-negotiable; no paid benefits; lifelong tenure.”

Would you be surprised to learn that there are over 1 billion people worldwide now hold this position? Their job title is Mum.

Being a mother shouldn’t define who they are nor should their “success” as a mum be measured by their capacity to keep everything in order. I’m not a mother myself but I see how success as a mum is determined by ones ability to trust that even in the chaos, a pair of messy paint covered hands and faces - it is beautiful, and even in the mess, so are you.

This Mother’s Day, we would like to introduce you to a beautiful mother/ daughter trio who are #friendsofxnihilo. Their relationship always gives me so much joy just by watching them interact and nag each other. For some reason their Russian accent automatically switches on at this point – picture this for me.

P.S: they are all fans of the X NIHILO Eight mini bag and each owns one in different colour! Wish we had a photo of them with their X NIHLO arm candy together xxx

Now let’s all take a break and explore what they have to say about each other.

What would you say is the best advice your mother has given you?

Never give up, keep pursuing your goals, she always pushes us to strive 2, 5, 10 steps ahead.

What is the best thing about your mum?

She is kind, nurturing, fair and has the best advice. She is my best friend.

If you could only say one thing to your mum what would it be?

Thank you for listening, loving and caring for me in the good times and bad.

As you have grown up what is something you realise now about your mum that you didn’t realise in the past?

I have a whole new appreciation of my mum since becoming a mum. My respect levels were already high, and jumped up even higher once I realised how much love and pain (sleepless nights, seeing your child unwell, long days!) you experience as a mum

If you could take anything from your mum’s wardrobe what would you take?

Her Van Cleef and Arpels Alhambra Necklace, it is spectacular.

Can you name any similar traits you share with your mum?

Both our parents gave us such amazing opportunities in our lives. They always have always been there to help support and guide us without ever telling us specifically what to do. I remember my mum telling me, it is so hard to watch your children make mistakes, but it is the only way that you will be able to learn and grow. I am so appreciative of that. Jessie and I both are strong, determined women, and I can give thanks to our parents for helping us develop ourselves.

Jess

What would you say is the best advice your mother has given you?

Any advice that mum gives and has this skill of sticking in your head forever haha. One thing I love about my mum is herself care routine, and that always looks immaculate. This is one bit of advice I’ve taken on from my mum: put in the time and effort, care for your skin with good quality makeup and skincare, and always wear good quality shoes.

What is the best thing about your mum?

She is always there for you. ALWAYS!

If you could only say one thing to your mum what would it be?

You are the most resilient and selfless woman I have met. Your whole life you have made family your number one priority. We all know it, recognize it and appreciate it more than you understand. You’re such a pillar in our family, and we are so lucky to have you.

Can you name any similar traits you share with your mum?

Physically, I look a lot like my mum - we share the same eyes and smile. Personality wise, I have inherited my mums strong work ethic. Often, I will be talking to my mum, and we will just pause to recognize our similarities and the way we both react to the same situation.

As you have grown up what is something you realise now about your mum that you didn’t realise in the past?

One thing I was completely oblivious to growing up was the sacrifices both my parents made growing up for my sister and I. Every decision they made was for my sister and I.

If you could take anything from your mum’s wardrobe what would you take?

Her Sapphire earrings and necklace. No question.
